YAMAHA CP-70 is an electric grand piano with real strings and hammers. Instead of a traditional soundboard, the string vibrations are captured by piezo pickups and converted into electrical audio signals, much like an electric guitar amplifies the sound of an acoustic guitar.

Designed for touring and live performance, the CP-70 weighs approximately 130 kilograms and can be separated into two sections, making it far easier to transport than a conventional grand piano.

Produced from the mid-1970s to the mid-1980s, the CP-70 became renowned for its distinctive sound: a warm, clear tone with a smooth sustain. Its shortened bass strings give the lowest octave a unique character that has made the instrument instantly recognizable.
