Another collaborative project by Versteegde and Van Dongen is the Philicorda Chamber Quartet

Bart van Dongen performs a solo chamber quartet, playing four Philips Philicorda organs from the 1960s simultaneously. Created especially for this project, the composition combines chamber music with improvisation, placing the unique technical and physical qualities of this iconic instrument at its core.

Each organ has its own amplifier and two loudspeakers, creating a four-channel spatial sound field that is constantly shifting in character. By exploring the interaction between the four instruments, Van Dongen creates a dynamic, multilayered sonic landscape.

The four organs are arranged —based on a concept by Versteegde— in a square, with the performer positioned at the centre and the audience surrounding the installation. From every listening position, the balance between the instruments is different, causing the timbre and the spatial perception of the music to change continuously.

Bart van Dongen voert solo een kamerkwartet uit, gelijktijdig gespeeld op vier Philips Philicorda-orgels uit de jaren zestig. Speciaal voor dit project componeerde hij een kamermuzikaal werk met ruimte voor improvisatie, waarin de unieke technische en fysieke eigenschappen van dit iconische instrument centraal staan

Elk orgel beschikt over een eigen versterker met twee luidsprekers, waardoor een vierkanaals, ruimtelijk klankveld ontstaat dat voortdurend van karakter verandert. Door de onderlinge interactie tussen de vier instrumenten als uitgangspunt te nemen, ontvouwt zich een dynamisch en gelaagd klanklandschap

De vier orgels staan —naar een concept van Versteegde— opgesteld in een carré, met de organist in het midden en het publiek daaromheen. Vanaf iedere luisterpositie ontstaat een andere balans tussen de instrumenten, waardoor de klankkleur en de ruimtelijke beleving voortdurend veranderen.
